"I WANNA BE EXTRACTED BLUES"
(
A song written by Bill "Pappy" Gleason)

Launch out of PHU BAI, on a Saturday night.
Goin' to the ASHAU, Goin' in at last light.
Flyin' in a huey, touch down twice on the way.
Trying to make Charlie think, that's where we're goin' to stay.

Hit the final L Z, five men out the door.
Move out fifty meters, won't move no more.
Sit back to back, until first day light,
Hear lots of movements, knowin' something ain't right.

Information to gain, nothin' much to lose.
I got them old I wanna be extracted blues.

Move out single file, through the gotcha vines.
The wait a minute bushes, lots of enemy signs.
Come face to face with a khaki soldier,
Short fire fight, he won't get no older.

Now we're on the run, have to E and E,
Stop and call FAC, look for an L Z.
Come to a clearing, in the tree line looking back,
Hear Charlie coming, look up and see FAC.

Information to gain, nothin' much to lose.
I got them old I wanna be extracted blues.

FAC smokes Charlie's spot, gun ships come across low,
Mini guns and rockets cause ol' Charlie to slow.
Move into the clearing, slick is settling down,
Jump into the door, gunner is expending his rounds.

Get some altitude, we know we're home free,
Goin' back to PHU BAI, to the beer and whiskey.
Goin' to get drunk, and howl at the moon.
Because we know there's goin' to be another briefing soon.

Information to gain, nothin' much to lose.
I got them old I wanna be extracted blues.
